Hello, I am new to my current employer and don’t have much experience administering Avast which is licensed for the entire company of a little over 100 machines. I have been reading over all the white papers trying to find a solution to a problem that has developed over the last 2 weeks.
We run AMS on a dedicated application server and the DB on SQL 2000/Win2000 Server.
Suddenly about 2 weeks ago, our field production application started lagging as the clients navitaged from screen to screen within our business application which is all SQL DB driven.
After a very long process of elimination, the only thing that seems to have corrected the 30sec-2min lag time was stopping the Avast Management Server service.
I updated the application to the latest version of setup_adnm_no_msde.exe. We found that the avast DB on the SQL server recovery model was set to Simple instead of Full Control. We switched to Full Control and backed up the DB and the transaction logs. We manually shrunk the DB.
However when I restarted the AMS server service, the other SQL DB’s continued to lock up again so I stopped the AMS service again. Production responces returned to normal.
I’m not sure where to go from here. I see the AMS Maintenance application has some DB features, but I am leary of deleting and recreating the DB as I am simply not familier with this product and the impact such a move might cause.
Zach and I work together at the same company, and we’re still hitting this snag. We’ve found more information via the SQL Profiler, which we ran after turning AMS back on. We’re both pretty new at this, and if anyone could throw us a bone, that’d be great. No ideas too dumb or outlandish; we’re about at the point of calling a voodoo doctor in to throw some chicken bones for us.
Here are the types of messages that we’re getting (and we’re getting a LOT of these):
