Just updated to latest version, and along with about 400% more ads, the WiFi scanner appears to have been replaced with a WiFi Speed Check??? Is this a bug of some sort or just a continuation of the ruination of what was once the best mobile security app?
How do we scan networks now? I don’t need a speed check - how is that related to security?
Latest AMS.
When I start it, the wifi scan is the first thing I see.
There is no speed check in AMS. (at least not in the version I have)
Are you perhaps using a beta version ?
No beta, just latest update from Google Play. This app is little more than an ad server now it seems. Why replace network scanning with a speed check? These developer kids have really lost the plot now.
Turned out my tablet didn’t had received the latest update.
I updated just now.
Seems the WiFi scan has been moved to the “scan device” and the speed tester is new.
After huge amounts of complaints about the ads in avast free on pc’s they have done something about it.
But as it seems they have not learned a darn thing, because now they show up on AMS >:(
I’m sure this is gonna cost them users.
I no longer have any option to scan wifi networks, just a rubbishy and inferior speed checker. Looks like this was another kindergarten project by the kids who have obviously taken it upon themselves to ruin the apps and Avasts reputation. Such a shame really.
So… does anyone know how to scan wifi networks for security in the latest version of AMS? Please don’t tell me it is yet another feature that has been removed.
That is incorrect. There is only wifi finder or speed check, no option to scan WiFi networks for security with latest update. Why would you remove an important security feature and replace it with an inferior speed check toy? Makes no sense. Avast used to be about protecting our devices. Has the whole company been hacked or something?
Also, the details on Google Play still list WiFi scan as part of the app with NO mention at all of the stupid speed check that has replaced it. Why can we not have network scan in the AMS app? Is there a paid version we can get that has all the security features like the app used to be, or is it a case of lots more adverts much less protection now?
There is indeed the WiFi check option, but you can’t initiate a check manually only the speedtest.
I’ve read that AMS scans networks when they are new and every 4(?) weeks.
I keep asking… why would you remove the manual scan and replace it with a speed test? How is a speed test toy part of securing a WiFi network? They really have forgotten what Avast used to stand for. It beggars belief.
Why the hell would they make a speed test readily available and then bury the important network scanner amongst third party adverts. I had seen that and assumed it was one of those fake AV ads you see all the time. I guess Avast really is adware now. I have lost faith in them completely. How do we know what is real anymore?
After the speed check, one of the "ads" that follows is the offer of a security check.
If you haven't told that, I would not even have seen the option (soon).
I too thought they where just promotions of other avast products and didn't scrolled down because I never expected the scan option to be there.
For sure something to change in the UI in my opinion.
I suggest…
At the top :
More by Avast - Storage - Smart Scan - Wi-Fi Check - Tools
Close underneath it the two (or 3) buttons like :
Scan Wifi - Test Speed - (Do both)
A little space and then the promotion info
Ofcourse avast is commercial company and they need to make money.
I understand why and accept they promote their paid products.
The way they are doing it however for the last few years is chasing customers rapidly away.
It seems that those decision makers are death and blind for what is happening and refuse to change things. SIGH
Hello! After the WiFi has been scanned once and it has not changed, it cannot be scanned again (unless you use the separate WiFi Scanner app) because there isn’t a need to.

Yes there is a need to scan it again.
If not, avast would not know if things are changed or not.
So yes, avast is scanning things without any notification.
That is not what the users want.
To most of them it seems nothing is scanned.
Besides that, there is nothing wrong at all with a user initiating a manual scan.
Even if it is just to give them little peace of mind.
avast is more and more looking to things from the top down.
Guess what, you can’t build a good house without a solid foundation.
