An annoying trojan

Can anyone help???
I appear to have got a trojan on my computer; it disables the windows xp security centre/firewall and prevents the operation of any anti-spyware packages. It has also changed my homepage and desktop background [it has been replaced with a “critical error - caused by trojan.smitfraud” message]

I have tried running my PC in safe mode where the anti-spy and avast work and detect the problem. However, the security centre does not reactivate and any deletions made during safe mode do not have effect when i return to normal mode.

Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers - dave

Schedule a boot time scan with avast! Check for any suspicious processes afterwards as described in the article.

If you find any, these are the best anti-Trojan programs. (They have working free trials.)

TDS-3 (Download the definitions file and move to the program folder.)

and TrojanHunter

Run the anti-spyware scans as described in the article.

Do a web search, again as described in the article, to find what registry changes you may have to make to restore anything which is left non-functioning.
