An False Positive? (Solved)

Solved

Well no detection on that link you gave.

So what exactly were you doing (a forum search, if so what for) ?

If it was on a search, was the detection on one of the links in the returned search hits ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections. C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashLogV.exe

Anyways i checked the link,no infections too but i thought i copy and pasted the correct link… :-[

Reasons is that i was searching for the computer tips thread, then i type it and after showing the
search result page, the infection is detected/found and i clicked abort connection. So its not
like the particular thread contain infections, its in the search result page.

I assumed it’s an False positive because from http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=18914.0,
not that similar, cause this one is when trying to view the link. But its the same infection name
detected by avast.

The logfile : 12/13/2008 7:54:53 PM SYSTEM 1364 Sign of “Win32:Mhtplo-26 [trj]” has been found in “http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=search2\index” file.

I feel there must be something missing in the url you are posting as it doesn’t appear complete, e.g. no file name at the end of it so no way to check.

The topic you gave a link to was from a very long time ago (2006) but that was supposed to have been fixed.

I have attempted to report this as best I can giving this topic as a reference.

Well not sure about the url,i don’t want to risk again. Though nothing detected while surfing other part of avast forum.

Well if avast is alerting and your only option is abort connection, the web shield intercepts it before it gets in to your system, so the risk is a limited one, but a risk none the less.

Personally I believe this is similar to the other detection which was considered a false positive, though it is still detected. I have resubmitted that one also.

I see, thanks for the explanation. Well i think its an false positive too. Anyways Thanks alot

You’re welcome.
