Annoyed!

Ok, my Avast IS license is coming to an end and i have recently been getting pop-ups telling my that my subscription is ending in however many days times, which is fair enough.

The thing that has annoyed me is the pop-up states that the 1yr renewal for 3 PCs is discounted from £49.99 to £34.99 and the offer only last for the next 3 days! Now, i know this to be untrue as this is the price i ALWAYS pay to renew Avast IS, and the days left to claim this special ‘offer’ have passed, and yes you guessed it the discount of £34.99 is still available.

Secondly today i received a pop-up telling me that, ‘My Avast protection has been turned off’ when i still have a few days left! Quite surprised by this i check the Avast icon in the system tray only to find that i am still protected.

I fully understand Avast is a business, and businesses need to make money to pay employees, make profit etc etc, but i do not like the underhand methods Avast is clearly using to get people to renew. Yes, there are a lot of other AV products out there so Avast has lots of competition, but i believe that a good product should speak for itself and not need such tactics to gain renewals. I have always paid to use Avast IS, as i believe in the product and trust it, and it has always served me well.

I just do not appreciated being ‘sold’ to in what i can only describe as an underhand way! Avast I am not impressed at all.

P.s. As i am typing this the pop-up has popped up again! Please see attachment. I still have days left on my license!!!

Price is changing “every day”.
If you want to renew, have a look around.
It could be a reseller has a special offer.

And for the pop-ups, you can disable them if you want.

Your popup doesn’t say that it’s been turned off.
I see that you still have 48 hrs left in your current term.
Should you decide to change to the Free version, all you need to do is
attempt to uninstall your current version. One of the options offered is to
Change what you currently have to the free version.

Look below the 48hrs bit on the right. It says, ‘Your Avast protection has been turned off’

It may say that but is it actually turned off - avastUI or avast tray icon or Windows Security/Action Center, indication it is actually off ?

No, that’s the point it isn’t turned off as i immediately checked system tray and the little green pop up said i was protected.

I just didn’t like the fact it was telling me that i am no longer protected when clearly i am. I see it as a scare tactic to get me to renew there and then. Although it states in the same pop-up in large letters the subscription period left to run the first thing i noticed was the message telling me it was turned off.

I like Avast, I trust Avast, I have always paid to renew Avast, and more than likely will again. It’s just as a loyal customer of many years i dislike the route Avast have taken with this.

I’ve reported the post and have asked Avast for an explanation.
It can’t be off if it’s still on. You can’t have 48 hrs left and not have protection ???

Exactly! Thank you

Hello justinlee,

thank you for your feedback. The info about “not protected” is definitely mistake in messaging and we will fix it soon. Since version 2015 Avast never turns off the basic real-time protection and updates, so you always get the free-like protection. But the premium features are disabled and you are being notified about expiration.

Hope this explanation helps.

Regards,
Martin

Under updates mine says connections not established, but as far as i’m aware i have the latest definitions. Will i still get virus definition updates? Please see screenshot.

I see you are not using version 2015.10.0.2209
It could be things are already improved/changed/fixed.
Give that one a try I would say.

Yes you should get them. Check them again in few days.
@Eddy Update to latest version is not possible, when expired.

Anyway I recommend you to renew your subscription soon.

Martin,
installing the latest free version, then registering is

The connection mentioned is more to do with the streaming updates and it doesn’t have to be on all of the time - I notice on mine for the most part if I check the connection is established, but occasionally not. I’m not overly concerned about it as I very rarely check it, but look directly in the defs sub-folder to see how the streaming and vps updates are progressing.

Or check the Statistics > Component Stats to see how many streaming updates for the last 24 hours.

Mine says 0 received in the past 24 hrs. It seems like until i renew i have to update manually. Manual updates do work.
