Please help me,
since a few days, every few minutes Avast is advising me that it had blocked a trojan trying to enter my PC. They are 4 (2 trojans, 2 adware), always the same that try to enter. I also noticed that it is frequent that my internet links don’t go where they are supposed.
My pc is running with Windows XP, all updates done. Avast!, Ad-Aware, SpyBot S&D and Ewido are all up to date too.
I read chipmunkice topics and it seems that I have the exact same problem.
As you told chipmunkice, I installed ZonAlarm firewall few minutes ago and it seemed to have stopped the attacks. The other problem stay tought, when I surf on the net many links doesn’t direct where they are supposed.
I started my pc in “no fail mode” (hope my tranlation is ok), and scanned with Ad-aware, Ewido, Spybot and Avast! but the trouble remains.
For the future, please don’t post live clickable links to suspect files/locations, break the URL http: // 85.255.115.xxx/ ,etc.
The images appear to have been removed from the servers possibly because of this issue, if they are malicious files.
How are they attacking you, are you not browsing that site ?
What were you ding when the alarm went ?
It is likely that the Web Shield provider is blocking these .jpg exploits, so you should see the path you have given and an option to Abort connection, stopping the file being downloaded to your HDD. So they shouldn’t have got on to your system.
The windows firewall doesn’t deserve the name as it provides no outnound protection and it could be something undetected on your system connecting to the internet to download more malware. Zone Alarm free http://www.zonelabs.com works fine with avast and has a reasonably friendly user interface. There are others, Comodo, Jetico, Sunbelt Kerio, etc.
See some firewall tests for comparison, some are freeware but many are paid for versions http://www.firewallleaktester.com/tests.php.
The easiest way is by going to Internet Options >
Security > Restricted sites > Sites . Then put the 2 main
85's, one by one, into the "Add this website to the zone"
box. Follow the directions there .
I have a “stripped-down” older system (kind-of-e-joke), but I tweak EVERYTHING until it just barely gets by on the Internet!! (since 8/4/04) uh-huh
I use “Internet Options/Security/Restricted sites…add this website to the zone” to keep “pests” out of my system and it works.
I have AVG Free for virus control and Ad-Aware SE along with Spybot for robots and such… e-nuf!
I wonder… as I wander… from tech site to tech site… does anyone know how to TRANSFER these RESTRICTED SITES!?? You know… like doing your e-mail contacts list in Outlook… on to the next computer…
I “crash” every once in a while (because I am just a little “e-tarded”… but… hey! It keeps me busy!
When I have to type each one of those suckers back into the “restricted zone”… bummer.
Firstly you have wandered, not on to a tech site but the Support forums for avast! anti-virus, so welcome ;D
Secondly this thread doesn’t relate to your question, this forum is about viruses & worms, etc. So the post shouldn’t have gone in this thread or forum, but in a thread/topic on its own. The General forum although not strictly correct either would be more appropriate.
However there doesn’t seem to be any export or import restricted sites function so even if you were able to export them you would still have to enter them one at a time manually, unless there is a location they are stored in registry perhaps that you could copy.
I just found out that through McAfee’s Privacy Servic, that I have on my newer computer, I can manage, “screen”, backup any and all of my online sites and cookies. Nice, huh? Plus, I already have a router with a NAT “firewall”. So I guess I’m all set. Avast there mates!
A Router NAT firewall only provides inbound protection so any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential (IMHO).
There are some firewalls that are low on resources that provide outbound protection, more used by gamers I believe and possibly those with older systems. There have been a number of firewall Topics in the forums so a forums search or google search for a firewall to suit your needs.
