Anti-Theft rooted EOL - what are the alternatives?

I will start with pointing to the forum post that gets linked in each and every one of the topics on the subject: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=180261.msg1275641#msg1275641

So, one of the main reasons I originally started rooting my devices was to be able to install Anti-Theft rooted. Today I have obviously found many many more, “for the fun of it” being one, but “factory reset”-safe theft protection is still at the top of the list (with Titanium coming in a close second).

I’m pretty sure I’m not entirely alone judging by the number of posts on this topic.

So, I’ll skip the “zomfg it’s broken!” and cut to the chase: what other options are out there?

I’m familiar with Cerberus, but I can’t help feel it would be a bit reduntant. I already have Prey, which is awesome by the way. So Avast! and Prey together on my device meant I had a backup “spy app” (that wouldn’t survive a wipe, obviously) alongside a complete security package.

So installing Cerberus on top of that seems like overkill, and I’d honestly much rather stick with just Prey and replace Avast! if there is a good security package out there that does the whole extra root-features thing. Also, I use Prey on my laptop, so it’s a bit all-in-one in another sense (which is why replacing Prey isn’t viable). Though my Google-Fu comes up short…sure, there’s obviously no valid reason why I can’t keep it simple and just get Cerberus also, but hey, doesn’t hurt to ask a question, right?

So, all-knowing forum members: what ARE the alternatives to factory reset-survivable root anti-theft? And even if it’s just anti-theft apps like cerberus, it’d be interesting to know what options are available.

And on a further note, regarding my loyalty-impaired willingness to dump Avast! altogether just like that - I’m also not a super huge fan of the new mobile security suite. There’s a “gimmicky” feel to the UI, and I really liked the old one lots and lots better. Also, ads? Daf*kk? I’ve been a premium user since they launched the subscription option. Sure, they’re not super-intrusive, but still…I’d gladly keep paying yearly just to not see the ads and support development. Even though dropping rooted anti-theft IS sort of a dealbreaker, so I’m not sure I’d gladly keep paying so much anymore…I still like the Windows software though, I must admit - credit where credit’s due.
