on starting the scan it immediately finds this virus in file 0. It tells me to quarantine it. However, when trying to do this I am told the file does not exist. I then continue with the scan
Not sure what to and where to look in these foruns for instructions on how to eliminate

Are you using Windows XP?
Can you schedule a boot-time scanning?
Start avast! > Right click the skin > Schedule a boot-time scanning.
Select for scanning archives.
Boot.
Do you have any other antivirus installed in your computer? Did you have in the past?
Did you Google for AntiCmos-A keyword?
