Any tips on !avast home?

Can anybody out there help me with !avast home. I tried out this highly rated program a couple of weeks ago but had great trouble with my internet browser (Firefox) and email clent (Thunderbird).

Briefly, Firefox “could not find the proxy server” and Thunderbitrd “could not find the smtp server 127.0.0.1”. That seemed to me to be reasonable since the smtp server name had been changed beyond recognition with “hache” marks and superscript numbers!

I could not put these things right and abandoned the test, returning to AVG. I am wondering if I missed something in the installation process and would greatly appreciate any comments.

I am running Windows 98SE so Internet Explorer 6 and Outlook Express are available - I just prefer to use Firefox and Thunderbird.

Just use the internet mail scanner wizard. As far as i know it’s still available.
Should work just fine with OE6 and also Thunderbird.

Firefox & Windows 98:
You have to manually configure the browser proxy, as described here: http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-home-webshield.html

Thunderbird & Windows 98:
The change of the login settings is normal while using avast.
See http://forum.avast.com/index.php?action=display;board=2;threadid=7913;start=0#msg64228
With Win98 SE you should have:

pop3 server= smtp server = 127.0.0.1
username = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com
smtp authentication enabled and the username there = mail.server.coml#user or mail.server.com#user@server.com

Hope this helps. Welcome to forums.

Thanks folks. I’ll take a look at those links.

Bye for now!
