more AOL-HELL for the masses :
Hopefully it will be a case of “too little too late” for AOL. What goes around comes around. JMHO.
Even for FREE I wouldn’t be caught dead in AOhelL. (just my personal opinion)
Only in the USA currently still paid for in the UK and presumably elsewhere. I echo Bob’s comment not even if it were free to me I wouldn’t have AOHell.
more free aol-hell stuff for the masses… :
Just announced today, AOL (this blog’s parent company) is leading the industry by providing Free online storage for all web users. The free online storage will start in September, and will be powered by AOL’s Xdrive service. There will be no charges for uploading or downloading documents and files, and users will be able to access their files at www.xdrive.com.
This awesome service will allow users to store their massive collections of digital photos and videos that tend to consume most computer user’s hard drives these days.
The Free 5GB of space will be hosted in a secure state of the art data facility, and will include:
* 5 Gigabytes (GB) secure online storage at no cost
* No charges for uploads or downloads
* Ability to store any type of file, including photos, music, video, and documents
* Drag and drop interface between online storage and hard drive
* Access to files through any Web-connected PC or mobile device
* Permission-based file and folder sharing
* Online collaboration via shared files
* Scheduled automatic backups
* Automatic upload of e-mail attachments from providers including AOL Mail, AIM Mail, or any non-AOL POP3 or IMAP-compatible mail providers
* Full-resolution photo storage
* Easy access to AOL Pictures for professional prints and photo gifts
Xdrive will be free starting in early September to users with an AOL, or AIM screenname. This industry leading move by AOL is sure to get a lot of attention, and be a great benefit to all web users.
The only special I see for AOL members is 1/2 off the regular monthly fee
by using your AOL sign-in name.
5,000 AOLers find out the cost of free
There’s no such thing as a free lunch–and 5,000 soon-to-be-former AOL employees are finding that out the hard way. About 25 percent of the company’s workforce will be laid off as a result of the recent restructuring that’s making e-mail, instant messaging, and other services free for broadband users. Ouch. Who knew it took that many people to keep autocharging your credit card and refusing to let you cancel your service? In other news, did you know that if you are a current AOL subscriber who’s paying $25 a month for access to the elements of AOL that are about to become free, you’ll actually have to call AOL to let them know you don’t want to continue paying? You could keep paying, if you wanted–and then, I guess, you’d get some “tech support.” You’ll probably want to call today, because there might not be anyone to take your call by the end of the week.
Would you really call this “Good Customer Service” ???
im with bob and davidr ill be passing it by,bri
I have not used AOhell in 5 or 6 years but after that experience, I will never use it again … not even for free.
By the way, Earthlink already offered free webspace to it’s customers for years and now offers it’s members 1gb of storage space free as of last month. While this is one fifth of the other offer, Earthlink is a much better service. I am guessing that there are other ISPs offtering free webspace and this is what is prompting AOhell to do the same.
