Apple tells me Avast! is blocking iTunes from phone restore

Updated iPhone to iOs 8.1, phone went into recovery mode, told me to connect to iTunes. I did, then updated iTunes, then tried to download update. It will not update, (error numbers 39 and 3952). After six hours of Apple customer service chat, disabling Avast, Windows firewall, doing a clean install of iTunes, cell provider phone call, and Apple phone call, Apple insists that the blockage is due to Avast.

How do I change the Avast settings so I can restore the phone?

I figured it out–I found another older thread that had the same problem, found the files I needed to exclude from Avast, and it’s restoring properly now.
