Hi
I have just got avast! 4.8. Do not know it so well, yet.
If I get a virus or trojan shall it be
“delate” or “repair” or “moved to chest” ?
I found this little video:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=6Og7gg7ajhQ&feature=related
Well, you proberly know it ?
Are there other - maybe better - small avast! videos?
- I like to see one with virus/trojan alarm on …
:o
because I have (lucky me) not had any.
Just want to see how avast! react
8)
By the way …
Can I “test” it, so I know how it work…
until the day it is serius?
Send to Chest is safer than direct delete or move.
It will allow you further investigation (scan, restore in case of false positive) (rather direct deleting it).
Also it will remain encrypted and safe into chest (rather than moving the file).
you can use this website http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm to test if its working, it basically allows you to activate a fake test malware that will trigger avast, read carefully the instructions on the site first so as not to panic. If you dont wish to try it then you can try searching the internet as there are sure to be websites that deal with these situations.
This forum also details a lot actions you can perform with Avast as well as the main Avast webpage, good luck
ps any issues or if you need clarification just ask
when web shield intercepts a malware file you should click abort connection, if it is already on your system you should move to chest as it allows for further investigation and can be restored at a later date if it was a false positive, a small portion of infections can be cleaned but most of the time the entire file is malware so move to chest is your best/safest option
Hi Tech

Thanks
I´ll do that, in case I have some of those in the future…
(I proberly will…)

Thank you - I will try (I suppose), as you say it is safe…
But first I will read about it.
… And I believe I will return to the Forum to learn more
???
was there something you were unsure about packard.bell if so I can clarify or did I miss interpret what you was asking about, in either case apologies for any misinterpretation
Hi again sanctuaryforever
“was there something you were unsure about packard.bell if so I can clarify or did I miss interpret what you was asking about, in either case apologies for any misinterpretation”
Tanks. No, not yet. (Only if there was such a small “warning-video”)
I will return, when I find more quistions.
- Will try to learn avast! better.
Glad for the Forum, and the help from you members.
that website I mentioned before is useful for testing your antivirus software, it is not malicious, but acts like malware to trigger a warning to which you can learn how Avast acts on discovering a virus, people on here and elsewhere suggested it to me when I needed to test my Avast setup.
welcome to the forums
Here are some examples of the alert screens, they are accompanied by an all hell breaking loose audible alert.
Image 1 - Standard Shield alert malware on your system.
Image 2 - Internet Mail alert, you have received an infected email.
Image 3 - Web Shield alert, malware has been detected on the web page you were visiting.
as you can see DavidR has used the Eicar test file in different situations to show each eventuality of the alert system
If you go here:
http://www.avast.com/eng/viruses.html
You’ll see the Eicar test file on the left side of the screen, so yes as sanctuaryforever said, it’s safe.
