Can you update to the last official (not beta) program version 4.5.542 and see if it fixes your problems? ::slight_smile:

By the second line of your log I can see you’re using 4.5.536 8)

I noticed that your still running SP1??? There are many security fixes in SP2. It might be a good idea to update.

Information about current update:
Total time: 12 s

  • Program: Already up to date
    (current version 4.5.542)
  • Vps: Already up to date
    (current version 0448-1)

Server: download8.avast.com (67.15.104.48)
Downloaded files: 3 (0.03 KB)

I wanted to wait to get SP2 as long as possable cause of all the problems

So you get the last avast update… Congratulations…
Now, what about giving SP2 a test?
Which problems are you referring to?

I wanted to wait to get SP2 as long as possable cause of all the problems
What problems??? In the meanwhile, you're leaving your sytem open to all kinds of attacks that can really cause a problem. But, it's your computer so you have to make your own decisions. All I can do is give you mine. ;D

SP2 works like a charm in here… no problems at all… I love it ! ;D

Ok here is the strange thing…

Im now on Service Pack 2 but the minute I restarted I was getting hammered by the DCOM Exploit

22.11.2004 17:38:24 DCOM Exploit attack
from 4.26.161.30:135
29.11.2004 22:22:52 DCOM Exploit attack

29.11.2004 22:23:06 DCOM Exploit attack
from 4.26.173.44:135
29.11.2004 22:24:01 DCOM Exploit attack
from 4.26.150.255:135
29.11.2004 22:24:41 DCOM Exploit attack
from 4.26.96.49:135
29.11.2004 22:26:07 DCOM Exploit attack
from 4.26.96.49:135

I saw there was 1 security update and I got it and so far I havent had any more warnings … was the update I got most likely had the patch for the exploit in there ?

The other thing is do AVG and Avast conflict with each other ?

DCOM Exploit attack is a message came from your Network Shiled. It means it’s working fine, and btw, you are not protected by hardware router/firewall…

See here:

http://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=9176;start=0#msg76476

Of course, any other antivirus will conflict with any other antivirus program if you have two resident shields enabled. Worst thing you can do ever… same thing with firewalls. Keep only one installed and everything will be OK. I suggest you uninstall AVG, because there is nothing AVG can do that avast! can’t. In case you still need some good backup checker, you can always go to Trend Micro’s HOUSECALL, one of the best freeware online scanners, and problem solved. It’s always good to uninstall current antivirus completely, prior to installing the new one…

Btw, Network Shield is avast! Pro feature only. Are you registered avast! Pro user ? Just wondering…

Cheers !

Only if you install the both residents…
I use, without conflict until now, the two email scanners (avast and AVG free) but I even install the AVG resident (maybe it works disabled but I did not test).
