Any Alwil member/avast! evangelist over there??
Check the folder \data\log
Are there any files called unpXXXX (where XXXX is a random number) or *.mdmp there?
If so, send them to vlk (at) avast.com
They may contain more information about the problem (maybe a link to this thread).
Vlk explains how to create a dump file here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=22636.msg187340#msg187340 and here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=23283.msg193594#msg193594
To create the dump, download and run http://public.avast.com/~vlk/hangrep.exe . In the list of processes select it and use the Save button. This generates a file which you can either send to his email address vlk (at) avast.com (if it’s smaller than e.g. 1 MB, ZIPed), or upload to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming
The command-line version http://public.avast.com/~vlk/userdump.exe . The syntax is
userdump.exe <program_to_dump>.exe c:<report_name>.dmp
(producing dump file in the root of C:\ drive)
Please note that prior to taking it, you’ll have to temporarily disable avast self defense - otherwise, the program responsible for creation of the dump won’t be able to open the process.
I have 22 dumps here ;D ranging from July 28th to December 8th. Some of them are 0KB in size so I think they’re useless.
Shall I pack them all in a single rar file or should I send only the last dump?
Btw, when ashQuick crashed, a Windows Error Reporting screen popped up. Before clicking in any of the options, I launched Windows Task Manager, searched ashQuick in the process list and selected “Generate dump file…”. It weights 108MB.
Send the last dump (non-zero bytes).
Zip it and send it to Vlk.
Just one last question. RAR-ed the dump and the minidump - 30 MB compressed.
Shall I send a mail to vlk and then upload the file to avast! FTP server? Because it is too big to attach it. (btw, which is the address?)
Ftp server will be better.
E-mail sent, RAR uploaded. Now we have to wait…
Tech, can you give Vlk a ring? No news over here… (maybe he’s too busy, but I don’t know ???)
As far as I can tell, the crash occurs inside of the skinning library.
I’d try disabling the skinning support for the quick scanner (first page of program settings - uncheck “Enable skins for Explorer Extension”.
No problem, I don’t care about visual styles… but is it possible for ALWIL to fix that?
As far as I know, ActiveSkin is a 3rd party component… :-[
No, I don’t think we can fix ActiveSkin problems.
