Hi, I’m having a problem with some sort of Virus (?) which is generating an application named ashServe.exe (found in task manager) who takes over >95% of the CPU and I’m unable to work with the Computer. Can anyone help??? Please!!!
Was there any avast warning or is this just a suspicion?
- What OS are you using? is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
- What was the virus name, what was the filename, where was it found
example (C:\windows\system32\infected-filename.xxx)? - What actions have you taken to try and resolve the problem?
Are you sure about the spelling of the file name as, ashServ.exe (Not ashServe.exe) is the main scanning element of avast and when scanning a file it has high priority so it will use a lot of CPU time to quickly hand back priority to other programs and should return 0% on completion. It would also rotate the avast icon whilst scanning.
Sorry, the name of the problem is ashServ.exe.
The Computer OS is W2000Pro is supposed to be up to date.
I do not recall any message warning.
This morning when I have started the Computer it was working, after just a while it started to remain still for a long time, after this I went to check in task manager and found the CPU to be “blocked on 100% fix” looking at the Process Tab I saw that the process named ashServ.exe is absorbing almost the totality of the CPU.
AVAST apudates automatically since I’m connected via LAN.
Regret not to be able to say anything else.
Is there any chance to get rid of the problem?
Thank you
Bruno
There would appear to be something hanging in the ashServ.exe process, exactly what is the problem. Some others have experienced this problem (I never have) and has been covered previously in the forums.
What version of avast do you have? - latest 4.6.731
Have you just done an avast program update or say windows update, etc. that might have had an effect?
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It may be worthwhile to download the latest version of avast and use that for the new install.
Are you using the Home or the Trial version of avast?
Is there any scheduled scanning running in background?
Avast has always pulled the exact same thing on my machine. Version updates, repairs, etc have never worked. As far as I know, this is a bug in avast that has never been resolved. Tell us more about your computer. What hardware you have, what programs you have installed. Maybe we can find some common peice of hardware or application that is causing a conflict of some sort.
There is not such a bug in this version but, of course, in your system something is wrong or not working well.
We need info about the computer, the installed programs, etc. to help…
There is nothing wrong with the system.
When I do a fresh install of my OS and I have basically no other software installed, the problem STILL happens. I’ve installed a few other programs since then, but nothing a million other people dont have.
The computer is configured as follows:
AMD Athelon XP 3500+
asus a7n8x deluxe
1gb DDR 400 ram (kingston)
nvidia geforce nx6600 (msi)
sb audigy 2 platinum
dvd drive
logitech wireless keyboard/mouse
ati tv tuner pci card
one of those adapters that lets you use a playstation2 controler as a gamepad
software installed:
Windows XP sp2 (all imaginable updates installed)
Microsoft Office 2003
AIM
YIM
Adobe Acrobat
Avast (duh)
Visual Studio 2005
ePSXe
and that’s about it
