ashsimpl.exe

HI. I’m scanning my computer and in doing so I observe that a process called ASHSIMPL.EXE is occupying a lot of CPU’s usage. I’ve read in internet that it ¡s a known virus. Can you tell me if this is true?

ashSimpl.exe is the avast! scanner executable - so of course it’s using CPU when you are running a scan.

I did a google search for ASHSIMPL.EXE and found no references that it was a known virus. There were references that some worms try to change this executable by renaming it. That is understandable since most worms try to disable ant-virus services. If the name has been changed (for example to 1ASHSIMPL.EXE or some other change to the name), then you might have a problem. Since you have not indicated this, you should be fine.

As Igor stated, and he should know, it is the scanner part of the avast program and not a virus. Where did you read this mis-information?

If you just do a google search on “ashsimpl.exe” without visiting the web sites found it’s easy to get the impression the file is malware. For example

But when you read the technical details on those sites you see that ashsimpl.exe is one of the security related processes the malware tries to terminate.

No, Actually the links indicate that the trojan tries to terminate processes including ashsimpl.exe

I think we’re saying the same thing
