When I right-click on the icon in the taskbar and then click on About avast and then click on the HTTP://www.avast.com
I get the message ‘The Operating System Denied Access To The Specified File’ the file is shown as ashUInt
Strange, no problem connecting here.
What is your OS?
If XP is this a limited user account ? - the permissions doesn’t seem to make sence to me otherwise.
What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!) ?
The OS is WinXP Home and the Avast is 4.6 Home the VPS is 0605-5.
The only incidence of ashUInt.dll is in the Program Files dir where it is described as an 276k application extension, date modified 1/27/2006.
Location C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\ashUInt.dll (avast User Interface Common Module) same size and date modified.
It may well be a one off and there are better ways to get to avast.com, browser bookmark, but it is strange.
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
Are you logged on as Administrator, or restricted user? Did you change any access rights in the system?
