Just about every time I open up IE7 I get two " ashWebSv.exe Application Error "
Why do I get these messages? I notice that some images do not show when I get these error messages. I close the browser then reopen it and the error messages do not appear.
I have attached the two jpg images.
It is error not in ashWebSv.exe application itself but in some DLL (not avast!) which is linked to its address space (possible via APP_INIT). You should use something like Process Explorer to define what is this dll with the base address of 0x1000000. Answer depends on precise configuration of PC. E.g. on my PC COMODO guard32 is sitting at this address.
Iām not sure, but, maybe activate logging in WebShield could help:
- Disable avast self-defense module: Program settings > Troubleshooting tab of settings.
- Edit \data\avast4.ini file with Notepad.
- Find the section [WebScanner]
- Add the line:
EnableLogging=1 - Restart Web Shield in XP\Vista (terminate and start again) or whole PC in case of Win98
- Browse (trying to access some webpages)
The log file are \data\log\ashwebsv.log and ashwebsv.ws.
They would be accessible when WebShield is terminated again.
Post them here or send by mail to rypacek (at) asw.cz
After that, disable the logging to avoid a big log file.
Oh, enable the self-defense module again after that.
