Aswcmnos.dll in Avast Program sub directory was marked a trojan?

Hey all,
In looking at my sisters pc (which is seriously infected with just about everything), I just started running Dr. Web Scanner and it came across that file as having a Trojan download 36233 in her Avast 4.8 free home user version on her machine. It deleted it and is still running the scan. Avast was loaded in the back ground at the time.

Should I uninstall Avast and start from scratch with this or am I going to need a new copy of just that dll from someplace?

Thanks.

Z

If avast! was running and it was really aswCmnOS.dll… then it’s strange it could have been deleted.
(Sounds like a false alarm, by the way)

You can download most recent version of Home and have (setupeng) ready to run, then uninstall existing version, Restart when prompted and boot into Safe Mode. Set up and run new version in Safe Mode through to Restart and Run boot scan. Your computer will scan for viruses and you can move them to chest if any are detected. Once scan is through you should have a better idea of how things are going.

Reply post here.

Igor, is it related to self-defense module or the problem is even deeper?
Zwack, was you running Dr. Web Rescue CD?

Yes, I was and I think that that may have flagged the process as malicious and deleted it. Doh!

Ok. Now you have to repair your avast installation as you’ve deleted necessary files to avast, I suppose.

Probably a false alarm^^

How could a file in avast! be a trojan?^^

Repaired the Avast app and all is working fine now. I suppose it was a false positive from running the other AV checker.
Thanks all.
