hi all, i have purchased a wireless router and since then my avast does not update automatically.
it updates fine when i plug the modem directly in to my laptop.
can someone help me out please?
That is quite odd, Cause I am wireless and avast updates with no problems. I have my avast! set to check for updates every 30 minutes.
I also use a router, with no problems.
Just a shot in the dark but make sure in “Settings”> Updates> Update Paremeters, do you have “My Computer is directly connected to the Internet” check boxed?

I use a wireless connection to my router for my win7 (starter) netbook a no problem with auto or manual updates.
What happens if you try a manual update ?
If there is an error, please give the full text of it.
Presumably your system can connect and browse, etc. when using the wireless connection ?
yes, thats it, i checked the box that says permently connected to internet and it updated straight away.
