I have just installed Avast 4 Professional and set it to run a full scan beginning late in the evening every Friday.

Will Avast take some kind of automatic correction if it finds a virus, Trojan or whatever when running in the automatic mode or will it sit there, possibly all night, waiting for me to tell it what to do? Is there a setting, via menu or .ini, where I can have it automatically correct a situation?

I ran a full scan with the Home Edition and had to tell Avast what to do for every situation (it found a whole host of Trojans in C:\SystemVolumeInformation\Restore, apparently where XP keeps Restore Points. The problem was that I had to be present because I think Avast stopped scanning until after I had given it instructions on what to do with the Trojan.

I don’t use the Pro version, but I believe that in the Enhanced User Interface, there are Tasks, it is here I believe that these automated options are set.
