Automatic Update disabled?

I have diasabled automatic updating for Avast! Home. However, it is still running the startup item ‘aswupdsv.exe’ in my startup. Can I disable or remove this without stopping the update ability manually?

How did you disable it ?
The avast Program Settings, Update (Basic) allows three options, Automatic, Ask when update is available and Manual; none of those disables it so the service that is required to update will be in the back ground.

Mine currently shows Mem Usage in Task Manager of 208K so it is using next to no resources and won’t until you do a manual update.

Would you mind saying why you would want to disable automatic updating ?

sorry :-[, my mistake…I turned off automatic updating in the ‘Program Settings’. However, I am currently trying to reduce a lil load on my machine…not that I need to, just wants. I am running 33-36 procs when I start up and also my Avast! icon in the notification area is showing disabled (circle w/red line thru it) during start-up. This is not always, but most of the time. I was wondering if the proc ‘aswupdsv.exe’ was causing this…not to get into another post I already submitted… ??? Anyway, if it is necessary for updating, I will not worry about it. BTW: AMDAthlon 64 3200 w/1GB RM WinXP sp2 updated.

Yes, it’s necessary for update. But it won’t use resources unless when it is needed.
Maybe you should research more about the other programs running in your computer…

Thanks, I am getting into those already. All of which seem to be okay. Just not sure I need the 34-37 procs running. Maybe just overly cautious. Thanks anyway from an old school’r re-enrolling!!!

Peace Love and Chaos!!!

Which are they?

Yesterday and today, I see red color box say: updates disabled. I don,t know why, now must waiting if is it something problem or what.

Check your update validation period (dialog About on the ‘a’ blue icon menu).
Until when are you able to update avast? Specially the virus database (VPS)?

I still am pretty sure everythings okay, but if you see anything suspicious or not needed would appreciate any advice.

I’m not a HiJackThis expert… but I think I never mentioned that HJT has anything to help with an update trouble…
Please, post the last 50-100 files of avast log files:
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\log\Setup.log
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\Setup\setup.log

sorrry tech :-[. I am not having any troubles updating and the only question I had pertaining to that was answered on the first reply to me in the beginning. I simply gave the HJT log cause I thought you were curious about the procs I had running

Just not sure I need the 34-37 procs running.
Which are they?
Again, sorry for the xtra info…and my Avast updates just fine, my initial question was simply about the aswupdsv.exe entry in my start-up and if it was a necessary item for Avast functioning if I had chosen ‘Manual Update’ in the settings.

PLC

Now I understand. Sorry, I have asked, you’ve answered and I’ve complained without reason. Sorry.
I’m happy that everything is running well now 8)

np!!! I do know that sometimes its very easy to want to help someone and get a lil lost in doing that. It shows that you do care they are up and running with no problems…which is more than I can say about nameless other paid services for security ;D
