Hi,
Seems like the Automatic Update does not work. I’m using the latest Home Edition and Virus Def. of Avast. Also the blue window that used to pop up down in the right corner, seems to have disappeared. I’m running WinXP SP2. Someone else who face this problem? :-
Thanks in advance for any reply.
Does avast.setup file is allowed to connect into your firewall?
Can you manually update program and vps?
Which are the versions of both of them?
Yes, I can connect and update manually.
My versions are:
Program: 4.6.623 12.3.2005
VPS: 0512-2 26.3.2005
with me the automatic update functions also not more, since the new version, must always update I manuel.
avast checks if there is an available connection each 40 seconds.
If there isn’t, wait more 40 seconds to check. Checking does not take more than one second and, of course, does not use the Internet band.
If there is a connection, check for an update. If there is not any new file to download, wait 4 hours to start checking again. If there is an available update, start it and install it. Again, wait 4 hours to check the next time.
But for the program update, there is a schedule on the server to update all the avast! installations in a week period (if I’m not wrong).
With the current number of avast! users they wouldn’t be able to supply such a bandwidth (about 2Mb of program updates) in such a short time. Distributing the update evenly over a longer time period will help us mitigate the server load (and provide smoother update to everyone).
Some of this settings could be configurated different, I posted the default values of the avast4.ini file. See it for more tweaking about the blue panel, frequency of updates, etc. Click on Settings in my signature.
I’m using the Professional version, with scheduled program upgrades and virus database updates… I need to ‘downgrade’ my system to see if the Home version is working…
