In the AV Comparative False Alarm tests, March 2014, Avast had 94 false alarms. Win32:Evo-gen, a relatively new heuristic detection of Avast, was responsible for 80+ of these FP’s.
I assume that AV Comparatives is using the default settings in their testing. I am using the Hardened Mode Aggressive which to my understanding uses the White List and doesn’t depend on Heuristics.
So far I have only had 3 FP’s. They are AdwCleaner, WinPatrol and Tweaking.com – windows Repair, which is understandable because they change the registry and were maybe picked up by behavior. Each one of these has allowed me to exclude it. It then installed and has given no more problems.
Please verify for me that Hardened Mode Aggressive is the ONLY mode that uses the White List and if a fix for Win:32Evo-gen is coming. I have customers that are using Avast in the default mode…
