AV-Comparatives: Real-World Protection Test (May 2016)

[b]Avast!-98.6%,FP-1 Bad for Avast! :frowning:
AVG-99.4%,FP-0
AVIRA-99.4%,FP-3
Microsoft-97.7,FP-0
Kaspersky-99.7%,FP-0
Lavasoft-99.4%,FP-0

Ugh… They did well the previous months but seems some of the others are always at the top.

Look at Kaspersky always stay between top 5 rank and among the free Avira stay solid but more amazing when AVG score 99.4% :o with 0 FP.

Wondering if Avast Free Antivirus is worth the price? - https://blog.avast.com/avast-free-antivirus-is-top-rated-free-security-software
And now they should post another article about - wondering why avast detection rate is poor? LOL ;D

I’ve used Avast since 2003. I’ve also seen Avast on the top of the list and somewhat further down on that list.
Over the long haul, it’s always kept me safe.

Avast will get better again, theres stuff in the works

CyberCapture will make an improvement for example.

I honestly don’t pay much attention to these detection figures, I doubt they reflect the reality of the day to day running of an AV. There’s more to an AV than getting 100% in a test. 98.6% isn’t catastrophically bad.

Look at this:

https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/
https://www.av-test.org/en/antivirus/home-windows/windows-10/april-2016/avast-free-antivirus-2016-161413/

To me, AV-Test analysis are more complete and reliable than AV-Comparatives.

AVIRA has APC, AVG has IDP

I think avast just need a good name for it’s new tech. The test is not important!

Avast! has it own Evo-gen,Filerep,CyberCapture(Is not mature enough, still in Beta)No.Test is always important.

I wonder how will they test CyberCapture considering verdicts may arrive hours later when they are doing the test. How will they treat files caught by CiberCapture but not received any verdict yet during the test period? Will AV-C actually wait for verdicts or how will they count detected/missed?

Seriously i don’t know.It is not not mature enough to test it in AV-C,Avast! needs to work harder for it before release.

Even Miscrosoft has blocked 95%+.Just like in a math examlation, your correctness is 99%, mine is 98%, I don’t think you are better.

Used avast free version 11.2
But what exact version ?

Yeah, we know how that goes with avast!. New feature today, actually half working 1 year later. When they notice it wasn’t really useful and they remove it entirely. Same old story for the last couple of years…

Why Avast doesn’t have PUP detection turned on by default? That could make detection better. Maybe that’s why Avast scored 98% on test. :frowning:

PUP is not malware. PUP = Potentially Unwanted Programs

Malwarebytes pup criteria >> https://www.malwarebytes.com/pup/

PUP (potentially unwanted program) detection would make little difference in these tests and I doubt the others tested would have had it active either, Microsofts PUP detection is only available after a registry change so they’re being tested without that feature also.
