A good reason why PUPs should be enabled by default. Avast would have scored better if so.

Why would they have done better with PUPs enabled?

yea…good question!

The funny thing is Avast does great for me. Any day I can go to MDL,MalwareBlacklist or Malc0de and download 10 links from each site. Avast stops all of them. That is enough to make me happy and recommend Avast to my clients.

so you cant answer the above?

cant say i have ever seen a AV test where they have used samples classified as PUP
that is why it is default off…as it is not malware PUP = Possible Unwanted Program

and since none of those used in the test above where in that category…why would PUP help?

It helps. Trust me.

Yeah right ::), that’s not going to happen anytime soon ;D

me neither…I dont like removal tests at all :stuck_out_tongue:

Prevention is better than cure…and avast is great for prevention! ;D

and then who cares about removal…I dont 8)

Aventador,I use some more sites apart from MDL etc etc…where I find samples which avast misses and I report them to their Lab.Though in my experience its very hard to find something that avast doesnt block with its shields…thats why I say its great for prevention 8)

nope…dont think so.

Good malware detection is very important to find existing malware that is already on a system. However, a high protection or detection rate of a product does not necessarily mean that a product has good removal abilities. On the other hand, a product with low detection rate may not even find the infection and therefore not be able to remove it. Some users may wrongly assume that Anti-Virus products just delete binary files (probably because most Anti-Virus products usually list only infected files in their logs) and do not fix anything else, like e.g. the registry etc. This report is also intended as a little informational document to explain that professional Anti-Virus products do much more than just deleting malicious files.

An old wish of us: better cleaning capabilities (including registry).

PUP detection wouldn’t make any difefrence at all as all of the samples were malware and not PUP. Just face it, it’s very poor and thats the end of it.
