It should work without problems with avant browser… :
Can you see if this link could help you on understanding webshield working? http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=1647.msg100190#msg100190
Did you allow ashWebSv.exe to connect the Internet into your firewall settings?
If you disable the Web Shield provider (into avast On-access providers settings) will you be allowed to connect the Internet?
Has anything else changed other than the latest version of avast?
Was it working previously with Avant?
If it was previously working with Avant, then ensure that you haven’t blocked the new and updated avast elements with your firewall.
First off, before I try to do some more checking and reporting, ZoneAlarm Free report Webshield (AshWebSv.exe) version as 4.6.622.0 (actually 4,6,622,0) and AshMailSv.exe as 4,6,602,0 Is this right?
AshWebSV.exe is allowed.
If I can get everything with Avast correct, I’ll go back to an earlier version of Avant and come forward as I have saved several previous versions.
WebShield is not blocking Avant, it doesn’t seem to detect Avant. There is no restriction to connecting to the Internet.
Yeah, this is now by design. The new version only scans traffic in those browsers that we have been explicitly (and thoroughly) tested in our lab. In other words, whereas build 603 scanned traffic in all browsers except those that were found to not work correctly, build 623 uses an opposite approach - it only scans browsers that we deem 100% compatible.
The rationale beyond this is, of course, better safe than sorry.
The list of compatible browsers is stored in the virus database (VPS file) so we can update it very easily. Once we verify that avast works with the Avant browser as expected, we’ll add it momentarily.
Hope this helps,
Vlk
Well, I had never experienced even a blip with Avant and zero problems of any kind with 603.
I added “OptinProcess=avant.exe” under [WebScanner] in avast4.ini and WebShield is working fine with Avant once again.
Thanks
Yes, that’s another way to force scanning of traffic coming from a specific process. Good job searching on the forum
Sorry this is offtopic but, Does the web scanner work 100% with Maxthon?
Yes, both Maxthon and MyIE2 are on the list.
Now that this is the case, would it not be a good idea to have a section in the FAQ, e.g. ‘Your Browser traffic isn’t being scanned by Web Shield,’ etc. with a link to the list those browsers on the list of approved applications.
Vlk, MyIE2 is now Maxthon.
MyIE2 is now Maxthon After being actively developed for more than one year and with the version 1.0 coming to its release, MyIE2 was renamed to Maxthon.More info in here: http://www.myie2.com/html_en/home.htm
Yes DavidR is right. That would be great for all those which uses browsers other than Firefox, Mozilla, IE etc…
I’m using Maxthon and I’m very happy how avast! handle everything under control with this browser…
Me too… I share your happiness with Maxthon
Yes, I am very happy with it… none of those other IE engine browsers is good as Maxthon is. I was with Maxthon since it was MyIE2. I had some problems with Avant browser (sudden crashings), some small issues with Green browser and some other, but Maxthon works perfect…
Also, I’m still using my good old Internet Explorer… although, now it has different look (see attachment). Who said IE isn’t pretty ? ;D Well, I made it pretty on my computer ;D
Also, I use Firefox as well… for testing purposes. When I create web sites, I like to check how everything works on as many different browsers as it’s possible…
I have the same problem. Over the past 3 weeks or so my Avant browser has kept hanging, and when it happends … all browser activity ( incl IE ) stops. And when I shutdown I get a window hanging and have to press the OFF button.
I have rebuilt my DELL Inspiron 3500 laptop numerous times and have definately identified that it is Avast 4.6 that is causing the problem.
I browsed this forum and added the Avant line to avast.ini and with version 4.6.620 it worked fine. Then over the weekend it auto updated to 4.6.623 and the problems back worse than ever. I checked avast.ini and the “avant” line is included by default in this release. In desperation I have had to stop Avast from loading so that I could browse the web ( and post this report )
The symptoms are : system boots ok, I am allowed to browse pages ( with Avant) once or twice … then after that … subsequent pages won’t load and I have to reboot … and this repeats etc etc.
I am running win2k, and have zone alarm 5.5.062.004 running. Stopping ZA does not change the problem. Stopping Avast does.
Can you help ?
thanks
Bill

Have you got the latest version of Avant browser, now 10.0 build 158?
I have just updated mine as I noticed a few niggles with the 153 build.
Hi
my avant is 10.152. I will download and update to the latest 10.159 and check out if there is any improvement.
Nope no different.
I rebooted after the Avant upgrade and then Avant browser worked fine for quite along time. I then shutdown and rebooted once more. This time Avant only lasted about 5 - 6 web pages before it hung. And upon shutdown, I got the “CSC” window hanging and had to hit the off button to shut the laptop down.
Any ideas what the problem is with Avast causing this to happen ?
