avast 15 for Windows XP users ?

Hello -
I’ve always done a custom install and deselected everything in the middle column, installing only the shields.
I’m running XP on an older PC. Running 2014.9.2021 at the moment.

Any advantage for users such as myself installing version 15 ?

Well, it’s faster than V9, at least here.

OK, I’ll give it a try.

Interesting as for me on my older Dell laptop xp v10 consumes significant more RAM and was noticeablty slower then v.9
So I downgraded.
Maybe wouldn’t be noticeable for machines with 2GB of RAM and more.

Also installed it on an old machine with only 512MB, still faster than V9.

Good to hear.

I’ve had a couple of issues so far (I’ve yet to actually install the product).
First avast_clear tells me that it recommends safemode and asks me if I’d like to boot into safemode now.
I reply yes, but after rebooting, it’s back to normal mode. A box from avast opens up and tells
me there was a registration error.

I proceed by entering safemode manually and run avast_clear, so far so good.

Upon reboot I start the latest avast_free installer, choose two shields only (not the email shield)
but the installer aborts because I only have 1800MB of disk space available.

This is a small XP partition, only 13GB, just less that 2GB free.

Does the installation of two shields require greater that 2GB?

It shouldn’t, still that’s not much space, try to free some.

I reverted to the earlier version for now. This partition varies between 1.8GB to 2.5 GB of free space.
It would be nice to know how much space the install actually needs, the installer error message doesn’t specify.

Secondly, if it really needed (actually uses) this amount of space for two shields I would uninstall it immediately
and again, revert to the earlier version.

Could it be a bug in the installer ?

IDK, only the devs can answer that.

How can we get their attention so these issues can be answered?

PM them or submit a ticket.
