Where is it? Step by step plz, from the sys tray icon, huh? Sure wish there was a full User Manual for this new version. I could find stuff then. Also, how to you enable a PUP scan for other type scans than a boot scan?
From the pull down menu, select type of scan (Quick/Full System/Removable Media/Folder/Boot time
Click on Settings (this is in blue)
Click on Sensitivity
Click/tick box for PUP and Suspicious Files.
Viewing Scan History
Click on system tray icon - Avast GUI opens
On left hand side, click on Status
There are 4 available short cuts.
(a) If the is a spare one (normally is by default) with âAddâ, click on it, and from the pull down menu select scan history.
(b) If no spare, right click on one you donât need and select change short cut, then from the pull down menu select scan history.
Now to see scan history, click on the short cut you have just set up
Maximise the dialogue if preferred.
Select a scan from âcompleted scansâ and some additional details will be shown in the lower pert of the screen.
wow olddog! thank you ever so much! THAT is the way a âstep by stepâ should be written.
the first part, on adding a PUP scan into my daily scan went fine, but the 2nd part, on viewing scan history didnât. I saw minimal data in the lower left afterwards, and, on the right side of the screen, the âDetailed reportâ button was greyed out. How do you make this button do something, or when will it light up of its own accord?
Screenshot would be nice.
Why are you running daily scans?
Remember avast comes with real-time shields for superior protection.
And if your daily scans come up clean you should probably cut back on scan frequency.
In other words, why scan if you donât need to?
Myself, and many others, have found a weekly quick scan is plenty.
I also run a full scan once a month if I remember to do so. Sometimes even
the full scan doesnât get ran for six weeks or more.
No, itâs not really a button, I think it is just a label saying the area below is where the detailed report will be.
Unfortunately this sort of thing seems on the increase with the present trend to show everything in various degrees of faded, low contrast pastel colours.
Itâs a trend I think was started by Microsoft and blindly followed by the rest of the lemmings, who donât seem to care how badly it affects many of us the no longer have the benefit of young eyesight.
Anyhow, just click (highlight) the individual scan you want, and the details appear in the lower panel - see screen shot
The only way the âshow detailed reportâ button will work is if there is something, infection/warning/error, to report.
If nothing is found there is nothing to report.
My PC runs 24/7 so running a daily scan is no problem, especially at 4 AM. I also run a MalwareBytes full scan daily, and Spybot. I do not want my 'puter to feel lonely and unloved, and want to try, as best i can, to stop a problem right away. To me, security is a full time issue.
Again, if you are getting clean scans you might want to cut back on scan frequency.
The keywords are âclean scansâ. If they are clean you could do daily quick scans and
a full scan once a week. I canât speak for the congregation but pretty sure you will find most of
us do weekly quick scans.
