Avast 2014 (v9-free) Windows 8.1 - unable to do quick scans of individual files

With this latest update of Avast any time I try to scan a single file (or a small group of files) it takes forever to do the scan. With the older versions I could scan a small file in literally a couple of seconds. Now a 5mb file the progress of the scan is so slow it could take an hour or more. Is there some setting I need to change in the program to correct this?

Same here except I’m on Windows 7. Really small files that should take less than 2 secs is now taking forever. How to fix this?

Make sure that you are updated to the latest: 9.0.2008. Links are available at http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=139606.msg1018608#msg1018608.

If you are already at the latest version, then attempt a repair of Avast. Click on Remove, scroll on the requester and select Repair. Restart Windows after repair is complete.

Hi, I am running the latest version and I have tried the repair per your suggestion, but it didn’t fix the problem. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling from scratch with the latest version from Avast’s website and the problem is now gone. I previously received the update via the updater, which may have caused something to go bonkers.
