AVAST 2015 turn OFF automatic Updates

Hello. I need to turn off automatic updates because I am on DIALUP with a very small quota. I Only update when I get to the city and have WiFi.

PLEASE somebody help, Avast is costing me money! It is eating up my data packets.

Alternately I would like to downgrade to AVAST 2014.

OR

A different program completely. Come On AVAST, you’ve been great up to now…

Settings > update
How hard is that to find

http://www.avast.com/download-documentation

You helped me so much.

Duh, easy to find but it does not work. I change the setting, but it never saves the new setting reverting to automatic all the time ???!!!

I am still battling with this. On 2015.10.0.2208 It is impossible to disable automatic updates.
Please somebody help.

Hello mike149.

There’s two possibilities:

  1. Did you do repair of avast via add/remove? Prior to having Avast what antivirus did you have? Did you use your previous antivirus removal tool before installing avast?

  2. Simply move to broadband. No disrespect, but dial-up is now very old and long gone in this generation.

Do you honestly think people are on dial-up through choice ???

Are you running on an account with restricted privileges ?

Have you set the Update settings to Dial-up ?
AvastUI > Settings > Update - scroll down to Details and expand that section. Set it to ‘I only connect to the internet using a dial up modem.’

I’m hoping that may allow for changing the auto update setting and for it to stick - If the dial-up setting doesn’t stick either. Then an avast repair is the next step.

Thank you for answering me

I have done a repair via add/remove

NONE of the buttons stick in the update settings, including “I only connect via shitty dialup”

No I am not on DU by choice.

Sorry to be a pain but this really costing me bandwidth, I only get 3 gigs in a MONTH!

I don’t know why the settings don’t stick - this might possibly be permissions related, if you are using a limited user account in the Operating System (?). Limited user accounts would have limited functionality in avast, but I rather doubt that this should be the issue as that too would have been the same in avast 2014.

The auto updates and streaming updates shouldn’t be that large - typically streaming updates are very small KBs.

The virus definitions updates (VPS) also shouldn’t be that large probably hundreds of KBs up to perhaps a MB (depending on what they are covering). Normally there are only 2 VPS updates a day.

Downgrading to avast 2014 would do very little as that too has the same virus definitions updates and streaming updates.

Thanks for your input! everyone.

You’re welcome.
