Avast 2019 repair taking ages

How long does the repair installation (via Avast settings) usually take?

I started the repair shortly after Casino Royale 2006 started on TV and it’s still going after the end of the film. It’s just sitting saying “repairing” with a spinning circle. I don’t want to restart my computer to force it to cancel in case I corrupt my Avast installation.

I’m running Avast Free 2019 on Win10. I can’t get the app version and build number since I’m locked out of it while it carries out the repair.

If I knew it would take this long I would have done it through the “Apps and Features” menu instead so I could at least see the progress bar.

That doesn’t sound right.
Try the Repair from Programs and Features/Avast then choose “Uninstall” and there will be a “Repair” option provided.

I would do that but I’m still locked out of the app while it tries to repair itself. Would I be OK to cancel it by restarting my computer?

Well, one can’t wait indefinitely.
I personally have never had a ‘Repair’ last longer than 5 maybe 10 minutes tops including Reboot.

UPDATE: I cancelled the dodgy repair by rebooting. It seems like that repair didn’t actually do anything anyway. I successfully carried out the repair through the Control Panel however this still hasn’t fixed the issue I was trying to repair in the first place (I’ll post a new thread about that).

Thanks for your advice.

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
If your Avast settings are not the default settings and you want them restored after the Clean Install, follow this before removing Avast.

You’re welcome,

Hi Bob, I already posted my new thread before I noticed your reply.

I’ll try a clean install and if that doesn’t work I’ll moan directly to Avast support
