i installed avast on my computer and when i try to get the on-access protection control to load…i get and error.
it says AAVM subsystem detected a RPC error. operation could not be completed.
do i get avast to load and use the providers to start running to help protect my computer

avast! 4.1? Did you mean 4.6? ??? Also what’s your OS?
RPC error is generally related to other antivirus present or, at least, firewall blocking. RPC error may also be because of avast! services being stopped. Anyway, RPC error is most likely correct by this procedure:
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove
Then choose Repair function in the pop up window (Repair).
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?
Do you have any other antivirus installed in your computer?
Did you have in the past? Which one?
Do you use a firewall? Which one?
If you use XP, also take a look into Administrative Tools > Services
and see how the four avast services are set to start (automatically or manual).
