avast 4.6.623 and emule = 99% CPU Load

Hi.

i encountered a strange problem within the last days. I’ll try to explain it to you as good as i can.

For the last few days emule started consuming 90-99% CPU load, which it never did before on my machine! Nothing has been changed on my system.

Now i found that hint, in a different Post, that stoping the WebShields Intelligent stream scanning might help users with their Websurfing Probs! This is where i think my problem starts too.

Browsers normaly use port 80!
In Emule you can choose different Ports, doesn’t really mater which one (one for TCP, one for UDP)
Now my thoughts are (btw i can not prove it) that if i catch up user in emule with port 80, webshield starts scanning the whole traffic, which causes emule to consume more cpu load!

Hope you can understand what i mean (i’m german and not to talented in describing such problems in english :D)

While reading other Posts, i found that you need to know the configuration of my System. Its

AMD XP-M 1800+(@2000+)
1 Gig of RAM
Windows Xp Prof SP2 up to date
DSL Card: FritzCard DL SL with an included Firewall more: www.avm.de
ISP: t-online.de 384kbit down / 64 kbit up
Spybot S&D 1.3 Uptodate

anything else you need to know?

greeting from germany

magic

btw, i will disable that Intelligent stream scanning right know, doing a reboot, and will have a close look at it again!

Is there any special reason to use port nr. 80 for e-mule? Anyway, it’s not good idea…

some guys use port 80, to prevent themselves from opening another port in their router/firewall!
Or maybe they think it would speed up their emule?
Can’t tell you exactly why they do so!

AFAIK, the main reason is that the port nr. 80 is usually allowed to access the Internet in corporate networks.

magicm13, what happens if you change to the usual ports TCP 4662 and UDP 4672? Have you tried in emule options → connections → test ports?
My CPU load is between in about 0-5%

AFAIK
What does this abreviation exactly mean ?

The explanation with those corporate networks sounds good to me

I can reach all ports via this test, and they are nonstandard right now!

So is it the eMule process that’s taking up the CPU? Or another process? (such as one of avast’s processes).

Thanks

It was the eMule process itself, in this special case

As far as I know, it stands for As Far As I Know (AFAIK)

thanks, Sasha
