Hey folks, just curious if anyone else has run into this.
My wife uses Intellisync 4.0100 with the Yahoo calendar and Avast Home…sometime within the last week, Intellisync stopped syncing…either it would fail to logon or it would appear to log on and sync, but nothing would write to the calendar and the calendar items would not sync to Outlook 2003.
Removed Avast and all works normally. I can’t recall exactly when the last time Avast updated, but there is definitely a correlation.
Find out what provider is causing this by disabling them one at a time.
Ofcourse try to synchronized after you have disabled one.
If you have find it, play around with the settings of that provider to see if it makes any difference.
Sorry, I didn’t make that clear. If by provider, you mean the particular function, it is the Resident Protection (real time protection) function.
On disabling that, it restored Intellisync to normal functioing. Odd part is, it worked just fine a couple weeks ago when she last sync’d. I can only guess that when Avast updated something changed.
Her machine is pretty static–meaning, she never installs new software or removes anything.
After searching this forum for this very issue, I did some packet sniffing of my own and figured it out. For whatever reason, the Web Shield service is blocking it.
[edit to my earlier response]
The best way to fix this is to get the Web Shield to ignore the application. I tried filtering URLs, but they change…
Open the avast4.ini file using notepad, in the C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\ directory. At the bottom, find the [WebScanner] section, and add what I have in bold:
Ahh, thank you! Sorry I did not get back until now. Yes, it is the web shield service…I didn’t know the others would be considered real time…
And thank you SuXor…that is an elegant solution to a problem that was annoying the heck out of me. I wonder what changed, since it had worked for more than a year until recently.
