Avast 4.7.942 and Win 98se

I have been using Avast for a couple of years now, and am very pleased with it.
I currently run version 4.7.892 on my Windows 98se machine.

I have resisted upgrading to version 4.7.942, because I have read a number of threads on this forum relating to problems installing/upgrading to the later versions on win 98.

Have these problems been resolved now?

What I intend to do is to download the executable (12 MB), and install it from that, rather than selecting the ‘Program Update’ option from the menu.

Regards
Barry

Any problem was experienced with an interim build .936 or .938, which was rectified 4.7.942 is fine.

Many thanks for your swift reply DavidR.
I shall proceed with the upgrade.

Barry

Your welcome.

A clean install is probably best, as you mentioned, uninstall, boot, install.

That’s the only way I’ve had any luck with updating on win98se.

Maybe because you were coming from .936 (and not from .892). Upgrading from .892 should work just fine…

If you do not succeed, follow David’s advice…

I was just throwing in my $.02 worth. Program updates just never went smooth for me. The only one that I didn’t have a problem with was the 2nd last beta.(way back last summer?)

Once, I couldn’t access program setting from anywhere, the next two times I tried, I had 0 providers. I just found it easier to download and install the new version.

I’ll try this one soon and this time save the logs if there is problem.

No still on .892, haven’t tried yet. 8)

oldman,
Just to let you know I recently had problems using the updater from 4.7.892 on my Win98SE machine and had to download and install the new version. See: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=26176.0
