Avast 4.8 finds file extensions .dll trojan on system startup (always different file name and always its located in folder system32). When I scaned pc it didn’t find anything. I did it even in safe mode - nothing. PC works properly but it still quite noing when every time on startup it shows the virus message.
Does anyone has a clue how to solve it?
What is the infected file name, where was it found e.g. (C:\windows\system32\infected-file-name.xxx) ?
Check the avast! Log Viewer (right click the avast ‘a’ icon), Warning section, this contains information on all avast detections.
If it repeatedly gets regenerated then there is likely to be undetected elements to it.
If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode and report the findings (it should product a log file).
- SUPERantispyware On-Demand only in free version. Or Spyware Terminator Resident scanner (if you use this don’t install the toolbar or crawler or the anti-virus module). Or a-Squared free. I suggest trying then in order as the order that represents the better detection and clean-up. Some elements of the programs might not work if you have an older OS like win9x or winME, this is namely the resident protection in SpywareTerminator.
From Avas Log - Sign of “Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}” has been found in “C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvwrspld.dll” file.
And every time it’s different ******.dll file.
Hi ribinsons,
Pop-up trojan, download the test version from here and scan:
http://www.superantispyware.com/downloadfile.html?productid=SUPERANTISPYWAREFREE
polonus
ribinsons, I suggest:
- Disable System Restore and reenable it after step 3.
- Clean your temporary files.
- Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning turned on.
- Like said by the others, use SUPERantispyware, MBAM or Spyware Terminator to scan for spywares and trojans. If any infection is detected, better and safer is send the file to Quarantine than to simple delete than.
- Test your machine with anti-rootkit applications. I suggest avast! antirootkit or Trend Micro RootkitBuster.
- Make a HijackThis log to post here or, better, submit the RunScanner log to to on-line analysis.
- Immunize your system with SpywareBlaster or Windows Advanced Care.
- Check if you have insecure applications with Secunia Software Inspector.
Ok - I’ll try to do what Tech said.
But before I did it already - Schedule a boot time scanning with avast with archive scanning.
I scaned with Spybot SD(nothing), then I did it with HijackIt - posted log on it home page - nothing.
I scaned it now with SuperAntiSpyware - nothing as well.
Coluld it help - I got all this rubish when I tried to install Spyware Doctor and a file contained Trojan. When Avast detected it, I ignored it because before I instaled the same file and Avast did not find anything harmul(it was “old” Avast before v 4.8) and I dod not have any probs on windows startup.
Does it changes all this staff?
I doubt it cam from spyware doctor if you got it from a reputable source.
A boot-time scan won’t find anything other than what is found normally if what is spawning these dlls isn’t found normally it won’t be found with a boot-time scan (unless it happens to be a rootkit, but that surely would have been found on the post boot rootkit scan by avast).
Did you run SAS from safe mode that is recommended ?
Post the contents of your HijackThis log here, you may need to copy and paste over more than one post, or attach the log to the post.
This one is from HijackThis-

Well that is probably one of the biggest HJT logs I have seen for a while, but nothing obvious comes to light.
I’m not familiar with this Desktop Messenger and its need to swamp the system with these protocols ???

However you don’t appear to have an active firewall (or just XP Firewall), what is your firewall ?
It should be capable of blocking unauthorised outbound Internet Connections.
Any malware that manages to get past your defences will have free reign to connect to the internet to either download more of the same, pass your personal data (sensitive or otherwise, user names, passwords, keylogger retrieved data, etc.) or open a backdoor to your computer, so outbound protection is essential.
Ensure you have the latest version of JRE (JAVA Runtime Environment) because older versions can be vulnerable to malware. First remove All Older Versions From Add/Remove Programs.
Then get the latest update from here http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
Or JRE version 6 update 6 http://www.majorgeeks.com/Sun_Java_Runtime_Environment_d4648.html
There are some rootkits and other malware that can recognise and hide from hijackthis.exe, so rename it ribinsons-hjt.exe and run it again and see if there is any major differences from this log.
