Avast 4.8 Home Edition settings

Hello again!
With previous versions of a-v software, I could right-click on an attachment to an email and scan for viruses. With avast 4.8 Home Edition as I have it installed right now, I can’t do this. Is it possible to alter the program so that this would be possible and if so how would I do this specifically? Thank you in advance.

I think avast does not offer this kind of scanning.
But if you let your Internet Mail provider (and Outlook plugin) turned on, it will scan your emails.
Which is your operational system? And email program?

Firstly the attachment should have been scanned (before it arrived in your inbox) if it was received from a pop3 email server on a regular email client.

Second, you should never open an attachment directly from the email, but save it to your Hard Disk, this act should have the standard shield scan it (depending on the file type of the attachment).

Once on your HDD you could do a right click context scan on the file to have the saved file scanned by avast.

You’re correct about that email not being scanned.

avast would scan normal IMAP accounts, but not gmail as that uses SSL/TLS secure encrypted email (also on different ports to those monitored by avast) designed to keep prying eyes out including AVs.

I don’t know anything about popzero, e.g. how t works. There are some web2pop3 tools that do the conversion and then bring it down as regular pop3 protocol email, so I don’t know if that is what popzero does, so I can’t say if avast would scan that.

Saving the attachment to any HDD location be that desktop or something like a downloads folder and scanning will be fine as it isn’t within the email mailbox .dbx files.

Obviously if you got an alert on it you should go back in to your email program and delete the email and its attachment manually and clear the deleted items folder.
