Avast 4.8 Home Free Requires Re-Register

Two months ago I installed Avast 4.8 Home Free Edition on my sister’s new Vista Home Premium laptop. She has begun to receive messages saying her sub
is expiring and she has 20 days to fix the problem. I’ve put Avast on several machines but this is a new problem to me.

We went into the about Avast dialogue box from the system tray and the Version is correct 4.8 Home Free. However, under the Licence Key under type
hers says Time Limited while mine says Home and an expiration date is given later in October.

She got a message today saying she can upgrade or just register the free product. Clicking on register takes to website where you can buy or enter a license key. The trial number that is assigned to her is strange looking as it is filled with 9’s. Is this something new that Avast Free is doing to sell the pro upgrade? Why assign a trial period to the free edition?
It is very confusing.
Please advise.

The Time Limited notice shows that it is still in the 60 day trial period and using the demo license, so no registration key has been input.

So follow Pondus’s instruction to get a key if you haven’t already done so and input it. That should change the Time Limited status.
