EDITED a couple of hours later: I think my conclusion was premature. As I prepared to remove Avast, I rebooted and then decided to give 4.8 one more shot. It seems to work fine. I’m downgrading my concerns from code red to beige. I have had occasional issues with boot-related problems with Avast in the past, though they have previously resulted in very slow browser performance and not slow e-mail. Anyway, things seem OK and I’m sticking with Avast for now.
ORIGINAL MESSAGE: My operating system is Vista 32 Ultimate SP1 on a Toshiba laptop. I accepted the upgrade to version 4.8 earlier today and rebooted. Now every time I touch something in Outlook 2007 (start it up, select a folder, touch an e-mail, or basically do anything), Avast locks up Outlook for 4-5 minutes. Eventually I regain control, but life is hardly worth living.
Sorry, Avast, but it’s uninstall time. Too bad - I use it on other machines and have recommended it because it has been pretty much problem free and reasonably fast until now. I’ll probably come back to Avast eventually, but carefully. Maybe this problem is unique to me - I found hints of similar problems on this forum, but nothing exactly the same. Regardless, I’ve got stuff to do and no time to mess around with broken utilities.
