Avast 5.0 blocks Internet

Hello!
My PC ran Vista SP2 and avast 4.7 then 4.8 quite satisfactorily. I installed yesterday Avast 5.0, and Vista’s Security center had at first difficulties to register it as an anti-virus. I could arrange that.
But after restarting the PC, Neither Thunderbird, nor Firefox or IE can access Internet. Strangely, Google Desktop sidebar can update the news and weather.
What’s wrong?

Thank you for helping me!

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow AvastSvc.exe internet access ?

  • If it does delete the entry for it and reconnect to the internet and also try your email, this should force the firewall to ask permission again.

well, best protection ever, if it’s already blocking the internet, what more can you ask ???

Thank you Davidr
My Firewall is Vista’s with advanced features, and I must check that avastsvc is authorized.
I’ll post the result

Try disabling the avast5 webscanner realtime shield temporarily.

Davidr was right, even if he drives left!
The firewall mentionned avastsetup from avast4 directory, and the problem was solved by authorizing avastsvc.exe.

Many thanks!

No problem, glad I could help.
