avast 5.0's Top Fuel Boot Up

Wow! I’m even more excited with this morning’s Boot Up time of my computer.
After yesterday’s install of avast 5.0, my Windows XP computer’s Boot Up time went from the usual 7 minutes all the way down to 4 minutes. I thought it might have been a fluke.

But, now this morning’s Boot Up time was somewhere between 3 to 3½ minutes!!! :o

I’m curious. In layman’s terms, what is avast 5.0 doing or NOT doing during Boot Up vs. avast 4.8 to account for the HUGE reduction in Boot Up time of my computer?

Are avast 5.0 Manual Scans also significantly shorter than 4.8’s? I sure hope so.
I believe my avast 4.8 Manual Scans were around 2 hours to just slightly over.
If avast 5.0 Manual Scans of my system can get cut down considerably, I’ll be super happy.
I’ll for sure have to perform a Manual Scan either tonight or tomorrow to settle my curiosity.
And of course to make sure there are no problems with Manual Scans as some other people have experienced.

The use of the Persistent and transient cache helps scan speed (and to a degree boot-time), so they should also improve on-demand scans a;so.

Okay, clue me in a little bit with that Persistent Caching so that I can see what I am missing.
Let’s say BlahBlahBlah.exe File is checked and deemed to be clean by avast 5.0 TODAY.
That Info is then stored in Permanent Memory.
From what I understand, that BlahBlahBlah.exe File will … never be checked again?

What’s to keep that File from being infected later today or tomorrow?
If it got infected later today or tomorrow, how would we know?
You know … now that it’s been deemed clean and put on some - Do NOT Check Again - list.

If the file gets infected (or modified in any other way), it will be checked again, so there’s no need to worry.

Ahhh, Okay! That makes sense. Thanks, Igor!
