I was using avast 4.xxx for quite some time and then just upgraded to avast 5 and your anti-virus tool is really of great help. There’s one thing I’ve noticed using avast 5, usually I use safe mode whenever I plug in removable media like flash drive and from there I will scan my removable drive using avast. Now that I’ve upgraded to avast 5, I can no longer use it on safe mode. Even if I schedule a boot-scan, the settings does not take effect if you do it on safe mode. Is that how it really works in version 5?
yes, Avast 5 doesn’t run in safe mode, no bug there I suppose the new interface requires the drivers and services to run, even in manual scan mode, which makes it impossible to be run…in safe mode.
@Logos: Awww… Is there any way the team could incorporate this setting on their future program updates?
In the meantime, I guess it’s either I’ll stick on version 5 and wait for updates or downgrade to version 4.

@Pondus: Yup, I’m aware of the difference between safe mode and boot scan. It’s just I was not able to run avast on safe mode so I opted for boot scan - scheduling it on safe mode. I’m persistent about this method because it’s much safer and effective on stopping the virus/malware from spreading on your system.

no, it’s impossible because all Avast 5 processes from all components, including manual scans, now belong to avastsvc (avast service), and services, as said, can’t be started in safe mode.
I’m releasing avast! at logon tool (again, as I did it for avast! 4 in the past).
It will be an application to schedule avast! to be run at logon time, before any other application.
Logon process is halted - it can take a little longer to load the desktop (once only) - until you finish your scanning with avast!
After you close the avast! interface, better (or necessary) will be clicking Ctrl+Alt+Del to logoff/logon again in normal way.
It will be a fast scanning and you’ll be able to work with avast! with the interface and all options, which is impossible at boot time.
You can also get access to the Chest.
There are two timeouts (5s) messages.
It has the ability to logoff/logon Windows.
It’s being developed for Vista (should work on NT/2k/XP/7 but not on Windows 9x or Me).
Thanks to Essexboy to test it on Windows 7. It works either on x32 and x64 systems.
It will be a conditionware, I mean, it will be available to avast! beta testers only for two months.
In the future, it won’t be available for all avast! users, but only for the permanent forum users.
Most probably, only for Evangelists (or for the ones who need access to the Chest before finishing the logon in a halted system).
