Avast 5 (Free version) - Webshield blocking internet access.

I have just done a format and a fresh install of Windows Vista Ultimate and I am finding that after about 15 minutes of internet usage the web shield cuts all internet access.

The only way to regain access is to stop the web shield running.

I have done the following:

  1. Checked my setting in Zone alarm Free (latest version).
  2. Checked settings in Avast (latest version).
  3. Spyware and virus check.
  4. Uninstall and re-install Avast.
  5. Downloaded all Windows updates.
  6. Reformat of hardrive and a fresh install of windows with the problem still persisting.

Not to sound offensive but some of the advice I have read in regards to this problem have been shocking.

If somebody has actually found a no nonsense solution I would be most grateful.

Be prepared for this coming down to choosing between ZA and Avast!.

I can’t say that for sure, but dropping ZA has ended a few strange problems I’ve seen posted here.

Why should there be a choice? Both programs work fine on my other computer and fine before the reformat. Plus lots of people use Avast and Zone Alarm without a hitch.

This is a well documented problem and it would be nice if somebody was more pro active in suggesting a solution rather than lazily suggesting the use of another program. (No offense).

None taken. As I am not an Avast! employee, I thankfully don’t have to fix their problems or make excuses for them :wink:
