Hi,
I’ve downloaded Avast! 5 and when I’m running the installation file I get this error:

I’ll be glad if you can tell me what’s the problem…
Thanks!

I am having the exact same problem and came here to try to find out what is going on. I purchased the product, downloaded the install file, and received the same little error window upon attempting to install. Help!
In 99% cases, this is caused by a corrupted setup program.
Please try downloading it again (possibly cleaning the browser cache first).
BTW the setup program is supposed to be digitally signed, so if you right-click it in Explorer, select Properties, and go to the Digital Signatures tab, you should see a signature, and if you double-click it, it should say “Digital signature is OK”. Otherwise, the file is corrupted and needs to be downloaded again.
Thanks
Vlk
I did try to download it again, but with the same result. My Digital Signatures tab does say it’s okay. I’ll clear my cache & try running it once more…
Nope, sorry – same error message. What should I try next?
By the way, I do really like this software. You guys do a good job.
I am wondering if my downloading through Firefox has anything to do with it… so I am now trying the download through IE.
Nertz. Same problem. ???
the same as alsirois… ???
Hello Gilad and alsirois, welcome to the forums.
Did you use avast!4 before? I found some people arguing that update from v4’s update notification failed with same error message.
If so, I suggest an installation from the scratch (thanks Tech):
1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it. http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall-utility.html 2. Download the latest avast version and save it. 3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that. 4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can't run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you've run it. 5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot. 6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro. 7. Check and post the results. Also you can try to install latest beta build 5.0.499.
What I have done is this: none of the downloads have worked for me, so this morning when I booted up, and AVAST said “Your virus database has been updated,” I opted to insert the license key into the free version. This seems to be working – it is now downloading an update. Hopefully this will work. Gilad, give it a try – you have nothing to lose, and I suspect Support won’t reply to this thread until Monday.
Well, my bad – it didn’t seem to work. I’ll try the download once more.
Gilad, read my other thread on this – my problem is solved. Did you try installing under your Admin ID? I had to clean out Avast in Safe mode and re-install the download – which worked – but I wonder if you have tried logging on and installing as Admin. Read the thread; see what you think.
Good luck!
