I installed upgraded to Avast! 5 from 4.8 last night, and made the necessary changes to SSL settings for Mail Shield to scan my mail through my GMail IMAP account.
Since then, Windows Live Mail is having serious issues connecting and synchronizing with my GMail account. It doesn’t fail completely, but certain tasks when synchronizing succeed, while others fail, with the message that “the server has refused the connection.”
This is obviously quite annoying. Has anyone else experienced this problem and found a solution? I would very much like to have this functioning properly and let Mail Shield scan my messages, but not as much as I would like to actually have my client working correctly.
Thanks for the information, cadremis. If push comes to shove, I may consider going to POP, but I’d really rather not. Still, it comes down to either that or not having Mail Shield scan, it might be an option.
It’s up to you, I would never stop the mail shield in Avast, that’s one of the reasons I like Avast, it checks all my mail thru Windows Live Mail without any problems…rm
Right. I can definitely see the benefits, but I guess I figure I shouldn’t have to make the choice of sacrificing that functionality or changing my setup, is all.
I have been using Avast 5.0.418 for over a month with Windows Mail, Gmail, and POP3 for 4 accounts without any problems except for today. Occasionally when checking for mail (mine is set to check frequently) one or two of the accounts would fail. The next time it checked they may all work, or a different one may fail. I believe today’s issues were Gmail related and not anything to do with Avast. This “may” also be the problem that you were experiencing.
TwoShoes, I think you may very well be right. In the last half hour or so, things have suddenly started working very smoothly. Hopefully, whatever this was has been resolved.
