Avast 5! right click scanner?

Im not sure what you call it, but i know you can right click on a file and tell avast to scan… but whenever i do the scanner never shows up?

thanks

It doesn’t show under default settings, that is the point of the quick scan no problem, no alert.

You can add special scans to the Scan Computer listing by adding it to the avast Settings, Basic, Special Scans, Show special scans in avast! user interface, see images.

thanks for the reply, and ive already done that, but still nothing pops up as if its not scanning anything

From the settings of the Scan from Windows Explorer, do you have a the Generate report file option checked and have you set a path to the file name you want to give it, see image, for the one I created. I don’t know if this is required so that the displayed window can import the scan details.

The scanning is GUIless unless a virus is found.

See my image 2 in Reply #1 above as that displays the results ‘even when no detection is found,’ it is that window that gtafanboy is trying to get displayed.

You’re right. My fault.

Yes, but we are trying to figure out why his hasn’t been displayed, any ideas ?

Unfortunately, not.

In the original post gtafanboy specifically mention right clicking on a file to scan it with Avast, and I believe he is talking about the Windows Explorer right click or “context” menu scan.

I assume the scan icon/entry is appearing because he doesn’t say that he can’t find the option, just that the scanner doesn’t “show up”

I have seen quite a few times when the scanning window or dialogue doesn’t appear as such, it is actually behind the Explorer window, but it does bring up the scan icon or indicater on the task bar, and if you click on that you can get it to appear in front, or you can minimise the Explorer window and you will then see it.

This action is not consistent, sometimes the scan window comes up in front, sometimes you have to click on the task bar indicator, but either way the scan does work and the results are shown regardless of whether there is an infection or not.

the scanner isnt working at all. i downloaded the eicar zip test file, and told avast to scan it and nothing appeared, no scanner and no alert of a virus.

looks like a quick system restart solved the issue

thanks anyways guys.

Maybe fom left field but what firewall are you using?
it maybe blocking pop-ups…I know OA did block a few
when first setting up avast! version 5 for me

You’re welcome, hopefully that is it, if as has been mentioned you don’t have OA firewall.
