Ok, so a couple of days ago i installed Avast 5 Free edition on my PC running Windows XP Pro w/ SP3 & after i installed Avast 5.X I restarted my computer & sure enough, i found myself faced with the Blue Screen of Death.
As per the rules of computer repair, i booted into safe mode & undid the last thing i did. So in this case, i uninstalled Avast 5. Restarted my computer & everything was back to normal.
I installed Avast 4.8 back onto my system & still nothing but a reliable & stable computer! Then yesterday a friend of mine called me & said he installed the latest version of avast & he got the blue screen of death while running on a vista machine. I directed him to do the same thing i had done & voila, problem was gone.
So my questions are these:
#1) Its been a week now since ive installed Avast 5, its been @ least 24 hours since my friend installed Avast 5, has the blue screen of death issue been resolved in avast 5? If not, i think i’d like to stick with Avast 4.8 until the people who were getting BSOD’s from avast report that their machines are running stable. Im not looking to get results from people who were running avast 5 without the BSOD issue, i already know that there were people out there who existed with Avast 5 & without the BSOD error. So anyone out there who ran into the BSOD (or anyone who works for avast), can someone PLEASE tell me if this issue has been resolved or if im better off using 4.8 for the next little while…which brings me to question #2.
#2) Im using Avast 4.8 Free edition, how long am i going to be able to use this before the program automatically updates to Avast 5? How long before i right click on the avast globe & run “program update” before it forces me to use the potentially unstable version of 5?
Any answers & help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time! CHEERS!
