avast 5 was disabled and now will not restart...help!!

I had disabled the avast for 10 minutes and that was 2 days ago , I’ve been trying everything and cannot get it going…anyone know what i should do.
I’ve tried to hit the fix button and that did nothing and start program will not do anything either… please help!!

I assume when you say you hit the fix button you mean the repair button.

I suggest an uninstall of Avast and CLEAN install[/b] to fix your problems.
Please follow these instructions:

  1. Save a copy of newest version of Avast (5.0.594) for the version you need and save it to your HDD:
    Freehttp://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe
    Prohttp://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_pro.exe
    AIShttp://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_ais.exe
  2. Download the Avast Uninstall Utility, aswClear5.exe http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility and save it to your HDD (it has uninstall tools for both 4.0 and 5.0).
  3. Disconnect from the Internet at this time.
  4. Uninstall Avast through “Add/Remove Programs”.
  5. Boot into Safe Mode and run the Avast Uninstall Tool.
  6. Reboot twice.
  7. Clean your computer up (clean up cache, etc.).
  8. Install the newest version of Avast and reboot twice.
  9. Get Internet access and update Avast definitions.
  10. Register your copy or add the license key for Free, Pro or AIS.
  11. Reset your settings, if needed.

Please post your results. Thank you.

Have you restarted your computer since you disabled avast?

Are you using the latest 5.0.594 version?

I had the same thing happen to me as well. The only difference was that I did not disable mine. Mine became disabled when I logged off my computer (7/8/10)and logged back on the next day. That was Thursday night and logged back on Friday morning. I could not fix it or restart it.

I took the computer to my ISP and their repairman removed the old copy of Avast and put a new one in for me. But since this happened my firewall now turns itself off and on. I have tried every thing I know of to boot up in safe mode to run the Malware program but it hangs on mup.sys and will not finish loading in safe mode. I wanted to run the Malware program in safe mode to find out if something has gotten on my computer that caused Avast to be disabled. (which is what I thinks has happened)

I have run Malware and spybot search and destroy two times and they found a couple of things and a max registry cleaner and removed it…but nothing else. I did a full scan with the updated Avast and they now find nothing. Even though I feel that something has gotten on my computer disabling my firewall.

I am not sure why I can’t boot up in safe mode to run the spyware, malware programs…any advice would be appreciated. The hang up at the Mup.sys file seems to be the problem area but not certain it is a bad file or spot on my hard drive. I ran chk.dsk utility and all seems well…

My system is:

Windows XP
Media Center edition
Version 2002
service pack 3

Mfg;
HP and company
HP Pavillion
AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual
core processor 4200+
984 MGHz, 960 MB of RAM

@Foggy i suggest you start a new topic in the virus an worms forum
