Hello… I recently updated to the newest Avast Version 5.0.377 … I’ve noticed a small issue with the shields…
If i play music (Tried it on Foobar2000, Winamp) While I’m loading a site (Opera, Firefox) … as the web shield is working (The orange ball spins) … My music pauses for half a second… its enough for me to notice it and also It wasn’t doing this in past versions.
My computer:
WinXP Professional 5.1 SP3 (Build #2600), x86
I play music with Windows Media Player 11 and browsing with Firefox. My computer using Windows Vista SP2 with Intel Dual Core P8600 @ 2.4 GHz and 2GB memory.
I found no issue just as you mention. I don’t know with Foobar or Winamp since I don’t use them, but do you have the same issue using WMP?
I have been listening to WMP 11 and surfing on Firefox the last two days with Avast 5 and have had no issues. I currently have Winamp v5.51 running and surfing the web and not experiencing any issues. Im on xp sp2 with a single core A64 and only a gig of RAM. I have the use special graphics effects unchecked in the basic settings menu. Maybe you could try that, though you will have to restart your computer.
i recently had the same problem. i just reinstalled my xp and put the new avast in. i’ve been losing cpu when downloading large files at high speed.(as a note, i’m using free download manager) i shut down several of my programs before thinking avast was the problem but there it was. i shut avast down and my cpu was going fine when downloading at high speed. then i turned it back on and noticed that the webshield was not active and my comp was still running great(i could not reactivate it for some reason. i restarted my comp and i got back my shields but webshield still uses up my cpu when i download at high speed. i’ve tested it also by just stopping the webshield
Check the expert settings under webshield. There are a couple that can slow down browsing with large files, especially the “Test whole files” under the “sensitivity” tab.
my “test whole files” is unchecked, and i never touched the settings, i did look through the settings , nothing for allowing certain programs. at least that i could see.
